5th Beer of Christmas - Flying Dog Brewery’s K-9 Cruiser Winter Ale

Our 5th Beer of Christmas is Flying Dog Brewery’s K-9 Cruiser Winter Ale @flyingdog www.flyingdogales.com. This malty brew had somewhat of a bite. I would have to say the taste is up in the air as I can hardly distinguish it.  Maybe a bit of chocolate, maybe some caramel. I’m trying to figure out what kind of spices are in this beer.  It’s not that filling for a winter ale and may be a good option if you are trying to put one back in the ski lodge while your friend is taking a leak but I wouldn’t recommend this thing otherwise. I know we are past Christmas but Beer Weekly will still be finishing up our 12 beers before the ball drops tomorrow (hopefully).  If you have any suggestions, please drop us a line on Twitter to @BeerWeekly or send us an email to beerweekly@gmail.com.

Happy New Year!!!!

4th Beer of Christmas - Shipyard Brewing Company Seasonal Ale

Our 4th Beer of Christmas is Shipyard Brewing Company’s @ShipyardBrewing www.shipyard.com This brew has quite the spice after your first sip. I must say that I haven’t had a cup of coffee in almost 15 years, but feel like I made up for it after drinking this beer that’s how strong the after taste was for me. Its definitely not a heavy beer and I can see someone requesting more than one. However, that person will not be me. I liked it but I’m one and done on this beer. I’ve heard good things about Shipyard Brewing Company so I’m not going to give up after trying their Seasonal Ale. Just hope they can come back with something beer this Spring. We’ve had some good requests so far so please keep them coming. Send your direct messages to us on twitter to @BeerWeekly.

3rd Beer of Christmas - Anderson Valley Brewing Company Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale

The 3rd Beer of Christmas is Anderson Valley Brewing Company’s @avbc www.avbc.com Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale. This malty brew with a ruby brown color is perfect for the holiday season.  I would recommend this beer after your after dinner drink. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good winter brew. It was somewhat surprisingly light and kept me coming back for more. The one flavor I did take in, which caught me off guard, was vanilla. I would have to say this brewery tucked away in Boonville, CA has a good thing going. Thank you again to everyone on Twitter sending in their favorite winter brews. If you have a beer we should try, hit us up on twitter @BeerWeekly.

Happy Drinking!!!

2nd Beer of Christmas - Avery Brewing Company Old Jubilation Ale

Tonight we are trying the Old Jubilation Ale from the Avery Brewing Company http://www.averybrewing.com/ This dark brown malt has a thick body that leaves one with a chocolate aftertaste. I would say it is a smooth ale that is right for the holiday season. With the holiday season kicking into high gear, I wouldn’t put this at the top of my list as there are plenty of winter and holiday beers to try. Would I try it again, probably but I’m looking forward to the other 10 Christmas Ales we have ready to serve up. If you have any recommendations, please feel free to drop us a line on Twitter @BeerWeekly.

Happy Holidays,

1st Beer of Christmas - Sierra Nevada Celebration

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. From now until Christmas Day we will be posting our 12 Beers of Christmas. Today we are trying Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Ale. This beer left my mouth dry with a piney aftertaste.  But let me tell you, I like this beer. Maybe its the holiday season and we are trying our first Holiday concoction but this IPA has the right amount of spice that leaves you asking for more. Only bought a six pack tonight, but will look to pick up some more during the holiday season.  If you have a beer that should be added to the 12 Beers of Christmas, feel free to send us a direct message to @BeerWeekly on Twitter.  Happy Holidays everyone!!! We appreciate everyone’s support so keep the direct messages coming. @SierraNevada #SierraNevada #BeerWeekly

Red Banshee Ale - Fort Collins Brewery

Tonight we are trying the Fort Collins Brewery’s (Fort Collins, CO; @FortCollinsBrew) very own Red Banshee Ale. At first taste, I must say I was indifferent about this beer. However, the more I drank the more it grew on me, especially with this beer’s light caramel aftertaste.  Am I going to say this is the best beer I’ve ever had? That’s a negative ghost rider, pattern is full. I’ve had better amber ales but this is a beer I would try again if it was offered at more establishments here on the East Coast.   Red Banshee Ale is definitely not a heavy beer and would go well with your Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday.  To follow Beer Weekly on Twitter, go to @BeerWeekly. We are always up for recommendations. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Cheers!!

Troegenator Double Bock - Troegs Brewing Company

Today we are trying the 2011 Gold Medal Winner from the Great American Beer Festival (Bock Category), the Troegenator Double Bock from the Troegs Brewing Company in Hershey, PA. This beer certainly lives up to the recognition it has received. The Troegenator is a dark, rich lager that to me has a somewhat chocolaty after taste but can certainly pack a punch given its higher alcohol content. Would definitely recommend this beer on a cold fall/winter afternoon or evening but wouldn’t spend an entire night drinking 12 of these (but could probably put away 10). If you have recommendations that we should try, please send us a message through twitter to @BeerWeekly.  Cheers!
